Assistant Track & Field Coach

Please welcome Dr. Chris Buckler to the Fenwick community! Chris will be assisting the Track & Field team with throwing in the spring! Dr. Chris Buckler is excited to join the Falcon family.  He brings to Bishop Fenwick, 20 years of coaching experiencing, including 7 years a head coach.  Currently, Buckler practices law, specializing in corporate law, his most recently head coaching position was the head cross country and track coach at Fontbonne University.  While at Fontbonne, he rebuilt a program that had saw little success.  During his three years, the program was able to finish a record high in the conference for men’s and women’s track while achieving 11 conference champions, 26 All-Conference Academic performers, 13 athletes-of-the-week performers, 7-time USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams, twice being the highest GPA in the nation, and breaking 181 school records.  Prior to Fontbonne, Buckler served as assistant coach and adjunct professor of Sports Management at the University of Wisconsin - Parkside. At Parkside, Buckler's student-athletes broke 29 school records in Indoor and Outdoor throws. Parkside also produced one All-American cross-country runner and one national distance qualifier in Indoor.

Before coaching at Parkside, Buckler was an assistant at the University of Southern Indiana. He has coached numerous All-Americans, earned Grand Valley Lakes Conference (GLVC) Cross Country Championships for both men and women two years in a row, and has coached student-athletes to over 70 broken records in the past three years. Buckler coached the 2012 GLVC Javelin Champion as well as the 2014 Men's 10,000m National Champion.

Buckler was a Division I Football and Track and Field student-athlete at Miami of Ohio, having graduated with two Bachelor of Science degrees in 2001. He went on to gain a master’s in education with a concentration in Sports Management from the University of Alabama - Tuscaloosa. Continuing his education, Buckler has a Certificate in Sports Law and graduated with a Juris Doctor degree from Marquette University Law School in 2004. He has been an athletic director as well as coach for college football and high school wrestling in his 20 years of coaching experience.

Buckler, who has a USATF Level 1, USATF Level 2 – Endurance and USATF Level 2 - Throws certification is also certified in the throws by the United States Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association and serves on the American Football Coaches Association committee for professional development. He's certified through the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).

Buckler still competes in the throws both domestically and internationally, winning 7 National Championships and numerus International medals, including 3 gold medals. 

Buckler and his wife Ami, reside in Dayton, OH and have two sons, Paden and Brendan. Paden who has already started his career, has been a 2-time All-American and National Runner-up in the Shot Put.
